Black History Month and BLM

Black Lives Matter

As Black History Month begins I think this is an appropriate time to discuss important topics of race and recreation.

We know that all things are connected and even as a canoe camping experience we unfortunately operate within a larger framework of systemic racism of our culture. Black, Indigenous and People of Color communities do not always have the same access to opportunities for outdoor recreation. It is our goal to share the wonders of the Pascagoula Watershed with everyone equally. Our trips are open to people of all races, genders, faiths, sexual orientations. Their is no place for discrimination on our trips or on the river.

We welcome BIPOC individuals on all our trips. If it is more comfortable or necessary to create a safe space, we also book entire trips exclusively for BIPOC individuals.

I sincerely hope everyone feels comfortable on these trips and with myself as your tour guide. I will be guiding nine Tours this spring. Every Friday - Monday. From Valentines Day to Easter weekend:

Feb 11-14 Lonely Hearts Club

Feb 18-21

Feb 25-28 Carnival Alternative

March 4-7 Mardi Gras Detox

March 11-14 NO TOUR. St Patrick's Day Parades

March 18-21

March 25-28

April 1-4

April 8-11

April 15-18 Easter

All the trips are four days and three nights on a spectacular river. Sleeping under the stars, eating great meals, and meeting amazing people. All the tours are fully outfitted with all gear, equipment, food, and me as your guide :)

As always if you have questions or ideas about the trips shoot me a message here w the contact form or on Instagram @bd_markey

Hope to see you on the river,
