Sigurd Olson birthday is April 4th
One of my favorite thinkers on the idea of wilderness, Sigurd Olson was born on April 4th. He was a pivotal force in creation of many national park wilderness areas. Olson was also remarkable with a canoe. He guided multi day tours in Northern Minnesota over the course of several decades.
The relationship he developed to his canoes was personal. perhaps my favorite reflection of his is “When one swings through a stroke and the canoe moves forward, it sets in motion long-forgotten reflexes, stirs up sensations deep within the subconscious.”
All the trips are four days and three nights on a spectacular river. Sleeping under the stars, eating great meals, and meeting amazing people. All the tours are fully outfitted with all gear, equipment, food, and me as your guide :)
